Having lost seats, but retaining enough to make a difference in the next government, Lib-Dem Nick Clegg is negotiating. There is an opportunity here to break the monopoly of the parties and throw away the whips.

Ashley Mote observed that judging by the vote totals in 25 constituencies, Cameron would have won an outright Parliamentary victory if he had kept his promise to hold a referendum on the EU. The question of the EU and the vast sums of money sent to it by the British taxpayer every day will not go away. Not in the upcoming fiscal crisis.
