British physicist, writer and broadcaster Paul Davies talks about what alien intelligence in the universe might mean to us.

But perhaps it wouldn't be alien? I mean, if one believes that the God of justice and love created the universe?

Davies's research has focused on quantum field theory in curved spacetime. He received the Advance Australia Award and two Eureka Prizes; the United Kingdom Kelvin Medal and Prize (2001) from the Institute of Physics; and the Faraday Prize from The Royal Society (2002). He received the Templeton Prize in 1995.

He is interested in what our response should be if a radio signal from an extraterrestrial intelligence arrived and what it might mean to religious people, in particular, Christians.

Davies reports that an informal protocol has been established by scientists in case a signal is received. He does not say whether it could withstand a tsunami of pubic interest. Christians, I think, can trust in God that mysteries will remain.
