Met Office to re-examine 160 years of climate data, including treasure trove

The Met Office plans to re-examine 160 years of temperature data after admitting that public confidence in the science on man-made global warming has been shattered by leaked e-mails.

Excellent. Hopefully the government will not be able to stop the Met, though at this hour it is trying to put a wrench in the spokes. We also hope the Met will take a hard look at where recent data has been collected and by whom.

We wrote on August 6 about the treasure trove discovered by the Met -

A group of academics and Met Office scientists has unearthed the records dating from the 1600s and examined more than 6,000 Royal Navy logs, which have provided one of the world's best sources for long-term weather data.

Every Royal Naval ship kept a detailed record of climate including air pressure, wind strength, air and sea temperature and major meteorological disturbances.

Thank you, Royal Navy. Thanks to Instapundit for the Times link.
