Kingfisher - Tales from the Halcyon River

The kingfisher has a protective membrane veiling the eyes when hurtling underwater.

We’ve been inspired to respect and love the natural world by Henry Williamson (Tarka the Otter, Salar the Salmon) Gilbert White (The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne), Gerald Durrel (My Family and Other Animals) and by many others.

Charlie Hamilton James and Philippa Forrester share their passion, but they work with a film production company and a camera as well as words.

Halcyon, their wildlife film production company, has produced the Wild Wood, On the Trail of Tarka, Wye - Voices from the Valley, Saving Grace and My Halcyon River. Charlie is the recipient of international photo awards.

This year Charlie emerged with stunning photographs of kingfishers obtained over a quarter century and thousands of hours of observation. He has recorded an exotic looking little creature - almost dreamlike when captured on a frosty day on a West Country river - going about its business in ways never before described.

The photos are accompanied by entries written in year-round diary form. The book appeared in Britain, India and Japan in May. We haven't found it yet on Amazon US.
