Not quite forgotten

It is Margaret Thatcher's birthday today.

As Britain’s first woman Prime Minister, Lady Thatcher helped to liberate the peoples of Eastern Europe from Soviet oppression and defended Falkland Islanders from conquest. She believed in individual responsibility and tried to lift the dead hand of the state from Britain’s economy. She helped to increase the number of people owning their own homes.

She was denounced for being terrible to the unions, but when she entered No. 10 Downing Street in 1979, there were half a dozen strikes going on - including hospital workers - inflation was at 13% and the economy was a wreck. She turned that around.

Today she is almost forgotten, but not by you and not by the Falklanders and not by the free peoples of Eastern Europe.
