Outriders with true messages from the real world are always welcome -

1) "A glitch in satellite sensors caused scientists to underestimate the extent of Arctic sea ice by 193,000 square miles, a California-size area, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center said."

It's always good when the opinions of scientists hit the hard macadam of facts. For a long while we have said that there are pollution problems that are real that ought to be addressed. If global warming is not a threat, it would be good to discover that before we have twisted our economies into pretzels.

2) We were appalled to hear the Archbishop of Canterbury once again belittle a thousand years of common law in Britain, insult the memory of thousands of Christians, including King Alfred, and place Muslim women at risk by continuing to advocate Sharia law.

Iowahawk has responded with a brilliant and devastating Chaucerian satire of the Archbishop.

3) It's always good when someone in Europe recognizes what parliamentary democracy is - and what it isn't. In this case the person is the President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus. He addressed the European Parliament, which had a nervous breakdown when Klaus pointed out its democratic deficit.

The present decision making system of the European Union is different from a classic parliamentary democracy, tested and proven by history. In a normal parliamentary system, part of the MPs support the government and part support the opposition. In the European parliament, this arrangement has been missing. Here, only one single alternative is being promoted and those who dare thinking about a different option are labelled as enemies of the European integration. . .

4) In the uproar that followed, Daniel Hannan MEP supported Klaus. Hannan is young, brilliant and energetic and a great supporter of British liberties. Congratulations to Hannan, who is celebrating the 2-year anniversary of his blog today.

5) There is increasing public dissatisfaction with the parties presently constituting Parliament, which we see as a positive sign - akin to signs of life in a patient. There is also all the wonderful life that goes on in Britain all the time. A very small but interesting portion of that appears in our monthly calendar.
