US President-Elect Obama's Inaugural Day

The Inaugural day for US President-elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle began when they prayed at St. John's Episcopal Church with Reverend Luis Leon, hours before Obama takes the oath of office as 44th US president in Washington, DC. The stop did not appear on the official schedule. The Episcopal Church is part of the Anglican Communion.

As Episcopalians, we pray for the President of the United States each time we gather for worship. In the years ahead, we will continue to pray for President Barack Obama, for his wise and inspired leadership and that he may know himself as a beloved child of God. May he both guide this nation and be a partner in leading the world to a greater justice for all. We give abundant thanks for his historic election, and pray that his ministry may encourage others in the prophetic search for a just and peaceful world. -Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori

Update: We do like the connection that President Obama made between hope and virtue in his speech. It is "an old and true" connection. We wish him well.
