The Glorious Revolution
An argument about the Glorious Revolution of 1688 appears today in the Wall Street Journal.
We agree with Andrew Roberts. The Revolution was glorious because it was peaceful, replacing James II with his daughter Mary and her husband William, who had agreed to support the Declaration of Right and its defence of English liberties.
The discussion dovetails neatly with our post Those Were the Days, which points out that Britain's constitutional sovereign enters into a covenant with the people to protect their rights and liberties. William and Mary did protect them.
Under the British Constitution the same demand is made of the constitutional monarch today.
