Edinburgh Festival(s)

Edinburgh Festival, the world's largest arts festival, has brought the finest Slavic orchestras, dance companies and ensembles and the "Silver Fox", Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, to Edinburgh this year. See the programme for details. (It's packed so full it takes a while to load.)

There is also the premiere of Matthew Bourne's Dorian Gray, the dance, freely adapted from Oscar Wilde; the National Theatre of Scotland's premiere of David Harrower's 365, One Night to Learn A Lifetime; the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under Charles Mackerras performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24 with Alfred Brendel at the piano in one of his last public appearances; the Edinburgh Festival Chorus singing Michael Tippett's choral work A Child of Our Time; five short pieces by young Scottish composers, to be played live in the Temperate Palmhouse of Edinburgh’s Royal Botanic Gardens; the TATTOO; and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra playing central European folk dance music at the great Fireworks Concert, to name a few.

And we haven't even mentioned the Fringe which performs all over the streets and hills and in small venues indoors.
