A great trouncing

Labour has been deservedly trounced in Council elections. This certainly suggests a widespread disgust with the national party and government.

We suspect that Shakespeare expressed the sentiments of many voters in John of Gaunt's speech in Richard II. Gaunt spoke of England. We think of the United Kingdom -

This land of such dear souls, this dear dear land,
Dear for her reputation through the world,
Is now leased out, I die pronouncing it,
Like to a tenement or pelting farm:
England, bound in with the triumphant sea
Whose rocky shore beats back the envious siege
Of watery Neptune, is now bound in with shame,
With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds:
That England, that was wont to conquer others,
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.

But never give up. The post below suggests how we can celebrate the voters' justified rejection of a government that does not deserve office.
