Prince Harry in Afghanistan

"Prince Harry has been fighting the Taliban on the front line in Afghanistan for 10 weeks, the Ministry of Defence confirmed today." In the featured story, Prince Harry is working to clear explosives from a road used by civilians.

"Chief of the General Staff Sir Richard Dannatt, the head of the British Army, said that the Prince's conduct on operations had been exemplary' and that he is a 'credit to the nation'. Prince Harry has always said that he wants 'to serve my country as I signed up to do.' Dannatt concluded, 'In common with all of his generation in the Army today, he is a credit to the nation.'"

Yes, they are.

Richard the Lionheart and many subsequent kings led troops into battle, though sometimes, it has to be said, a king led Englishmen against Englishmen. Elizabeth I was armed and prepared to lead her troops into battle against the invasion threat of the Spanish Armada. George II led troops to victory over the French in 1743 . Prince Andrew fought the Falklands War. When the cause is good, what better place for a royal to be than with his or her fellow British soldiers. Apparently The Queen agrees.
