Doris Lessing wins Nobel Prize for Literature

Novelist Doris Lessing has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Born in 1919 in Persia (Iran) to British parents, growing up in Zimbabwe, she published her first novel in 1950 after moving to London. Since then she has written around 80 books. I remember those I read as wonderful and strange. Their subjects were as different as science fiction and a homeless woman, but I could always hear and sense Lessing - the way, when you are at the beach, you can always hear and sense the sea.

She brought curious treasures out of the deep.

At 87 she "becomes the oldest winner of the world's most prestigious literary award, which is worth £765,000. . .[and] only the 11th woman in 106 years to be awarded the prize by the Swedish Academy".
