Meet me at Triscombe
The Quantock Hills
On a clear day you can see to the Glastonbury Tor, the Bristol Channel and Exmoor from the Quantock Hills in Somerset. Walking in the broad-leafed woodlands you can see into the past, too. There are traces of Bronze Age round barrows, Iron Age forts, Romans, Alfred's resistance to the Vikings and the Civil War.
Beautiful Britain tells us that the hills "became the first area in England to be awarded the national status of 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'(AONB). Many parts of the Quantocks are also designated a 'Site of Special Scientific Interest'(SSSI)".
Triscombe Stone was an ancient meeting place, close to the highest view. Tris is Celtic for meeting.
